Individuals must possess certain personality traits if they plan to pursue real estate careers. Because cooperating with the public is a primary component of real estate careers, individuals should be outgoing and should genuinely enjoy working with people. Strong people skills are required for such tasks as showing houses to prospective buyers and previewing homes within the agent’s jurisdiction. Home buyers, sellers, mortgage lenders and attorneys are just some of the many people agents will encounter. The variety of social interactions involved makes networking the key to succeeding in real estate careers; getting to know helpful colleagues as well as the competition gives agents an added edge.
Self-motivated and independent individual’s are imperative for these positions because the salaries earned in real estate careers are limited only by effort. According to salary.com, the average annual income of a real estate agent is $33,915. But driven people are capable of making more as long as they have the drive to canvass neighborhoods to find sales and call prospective sellers on a daily basis. Although the great advantage of pursuing real estate careers is the income potential, the pay may be inconsistent depending on current home market trends and other factors. Because of the sometimes erratic pay, people in real estate careers need to be resilient.
People beginning real estate careers must invest in the proper education. Most colleges have bachelor’s degree programs in real estate available. Classes in accounting and finance are usually necessary after college. To begin developing their real estate careers, individuals have to earn their license. Requirements for earning a real estate license can vary significantly between each state; however, everyone is expected to pass a written exam.

A real estate appraiser serves an essential role in the community because determining property value is needed for tax purposes, investment reasons and insurance reasons. The real estate counselor, on the other hand, gives advice to homeowners and other real estate agents, regarding the income potential of various property. A real estate counselor needs to understand every facet of the real estate industry if they are to give the best advice. Continuing education classes are therefore essential to being a real estate counselor.
